Changing the virus definition folder / location on Microsoft Security Essentials is not a built-in option in the software. If you need to protect drive C with Auto-restore function (using Radix Reload or other restore software like deep-freeze), you will constantly lose all updates and may need to update the virus definition every boot.
Using Radix MSE updater, you can set a new location to the virus definition folder and by that keeping your virus definition and MSE update - up to date.
1. Download Radix MSE updater Download
2. Verify that Microsoft Security Essentials is already installed
3. Start the wizard
4. Accept License agreement.
5. Select the new Microsoft Security Essentials location. This should point to an unprotected drive - usually drive "D". The destination folder does not have to exist before the wizard starts, it will be created automatically at the selected destination drive.

6. Finish the installation and reboot.
Note! Do not forget to take a snapshot, save changes or update baseline at the end of the process!
